A massed Choir of Male, Female and Youth is being formed to perform at the Welcome to Wales Gala in September this year.
Catherine Zeta Jones will swap Hollywood for her native Wales to tee off a massive star-studded Ryder Cup celebration concert. Jones, who was honoured with a CBE earlier last month in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, will open the extravaganza at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. Katherine Jenkins will also perform at the televised Welcome to Wales concert on September 29.
The 90 minute show will mark the start of the golfing tournament, which is held in the country this autumn.The European and United States teams will also be on stage on the night, to be introduced to the audience.
Jenkins said: “I’m delighted to be back in Wales for this very special concert to mark the launch of this landmark event. “To welcome the most prestigious and recognised event in the golfing calendar to Wales is a real honour.
“I don’t think Wales has ever seen anything on this scale so it’s very exciting to be part of it.”
Cardiff-based Last Choir Standing and Classical Brit winners Only Men Aloud will also perform at the gig.
The 2010 Ryder Cup will be held at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, south Wales, between October 1 and 3. It will mark the first time the event has been held in Wales. European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie said: “This is an excellent way to celebrate the 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales and will provide yet another opportunity for visitors to enjoy the wonderful Welsh hospitality.
